Due to significant growth, we’re expanding our department and looking for a hands-on Billing & Collections Manager with experience leading and motivating teams.  This role is based in Burbank, California.

    Responsibilities

    This position will report directly to the Director of Billing & Collections and will be responsible to manage and work with multiple employee groups (finance, operations, and clinical leadership) in the context of mergers and acquisitions, in addition to organic growth. The Billing & Collection Manager will be responsible for all facets of billing including medical (insurance providers and Medicaid), school districts and private pays.  Duties include working with medical billing coding specific to ABA Therapy (Applied Behavioral Analysis) in addition to managing four team members that work within the accounts receivable and collection efforts. This individual will also document our current billing and collections workflow/processes and make recommendations for process improvements.

     

    Management Duties

    • Supervision and mentorship of Accounts Receivable staff members
    • Meet with operations staff and clinical directors of intake/authorizations for issue resolution
    • Work closely with the accounting team to develop revenue accruals, reconciliation process for EOBs, posting of cash receipts, and all other related topics
    • Handle in-house inquiries related to insurance billing concerns, collection law and insurance protocol. Provide training and consultation to clinical team and billing staff to ensure accuracy of medical coding for both compliance and maximum reimbursement
    • Respond timely to audit requests from insurance carriers, agencies, municipalities, Medicaid, financial auditors and others

    Billing and Collections Management

    • Ensure that all month end payments are posted and billing is complete by the 5th of the following month
    • Ensure that all month end patient billing is complete and sent out by the 8th of the following month
    • Establish and maintain billing and collections processes to ensure claims are processed and paid on a timely basis with the goal of keeping DSOs below 60 days
    • Review correspondence and EOBs timely while identifying and correcting billing errors and resubmitting claims via the appellate process
    • Actively review and audit all funding sources on a weekly basis to ensure all service codes and payers are active and correct
    • Review of and correction of all claims/errors through the clearinghouse 
    • Review of all outstanding and unbilled claims, communicating with appropriate teams to resolve

    Qualifications

    • 5+ years relative accounts receivable experience in health care and/or insurance processing setting, with strong knowledge of medical collections and understanding of HCFA-1500 claim forms and appeals processes
    • Minimum of 1+ year of supervisory experience
    • Knowledge of CPT & ICD-10 Coding
    • Understanding of all PPO, HMO, Medi-Cal Affiliated Plans, School Districts, and Regional Center Billing Guidelines
    • Expert understanding of EOB’s
    • Proven comprehension of insurance contracts
    • Familiarity with Insurance, Regional Center, and School Authorizations
    • Proficient navigating insurance company websites and gaining required access
    • Demonstrated knowledge of HIPAA rules & regulations
    • Experience working with all payer types including third party commercial insurance companies, Medicaid, private-pay, and school districts
    • Strong analytical and multi-tasking skills, excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail and follow through
    • Recent experience with Central Reach Practice Management software or similar software preferred
    • Must be able to resolve issues of a routine and complex nature and exercise appropriate judgment to escalate issues to senior management
